Ellen’s Bouquet Stitchery Pillow is stitched and aged to appear antique. This is made much in the same manner as historic samplers.
It should be noted that once, hundreds of years ago, stitching was part of the schoolgirls curriculum. As a result of these time honored treasures, Raven’s Thyme strives to honor the tradition of the alphabet, signature line and picture.
In making Ellen’s Bouquet Stitchery, cotton embroidery floss was used. The alphabet is stitched in soldier blue. The signature line is stitched in butterscotch.
The vase is mallard blue and bouquet is stitched in mauve, burgundy, butter yellow with basil leaves.
This stitchery is bordered by a sunny camel cotton with flowers in mauve and blush with olive stems.
Not only does this pillow have a vintage look, but also a vintage feel. Once the pillow is made, it is then stuffed with rag-fill for a nice weighty aged feeling. The completed pillow measures 9″ x 11″.
This pillow is one of a kind.
What is Rag-fill?
Rag-fill consists of using all clean fabrics. Scraps of fabric, edges cut off, discarded fabrics of any kind upholstery, cottons and even cotton quilt batting are used.
Clothing with stains, or just wore out also get washed, then cut up and used to fill pillows.
In using rag-fill I believe the weight and feel of the pillow is in keeping with vintage and antique pillows.
